Irrigation Maintenance Tips

Tips for Keeping your Irrigation in Tip-Top Shape

Nearly every home here in Central Florida has some sort of irrigation system installed, which often leads to the question “don’t these wastewaters?” An irrigation system in disrepair can certainly wastewater, but one that has been properly maintained is actually very efficient.

While modern automatic irrigation systems tend to be very complex and it’s often smart to call a professional for help, there are things you can do to keep your system running as well as it can.

Keep Sprinkler Heads Aligned

Because pop-up sprinkler heads move up and down every time they run, it’s not uncommon for them to become misaligned over time. This can lead to all sorts of issues like poor spraying patterns and spraying in unwanted directions, leading to too much coverage of some areas, and not enough in others. To adjust your sprinkler heads, simply turn them when they are on until they spray in the desired pattern.

Adjust Heads to Prevent Over-spraying

It might seem like a great idea to get as much coverage as possible from each head, but there’s a sweet spot you need to try and achieve. Heads that spray too far can actually starve the grass surrounding the head of water, leaving brown patches all over your yard. Additionally, if you have neighbors that are close by, you run the risk of spraying their property or home as well.

Replacing Heads and Nozzles

Over time, nozzles and heads are often replaced for a variety of reasons. Anything from being run over by a lawnmower, to old age can claim your sprinkler heads. These heads must be replaced before they lead to further issues.

These are just a few small things to maintain your irrigation system on your own, but if you aren’t comfortable doing the work yourself, or you have a bigger issue, the experts at Miller Pest Solution are here to help. Call us today at (941) 702-7777 with any questions.
